Hand knitted blue pure alpaca gloves from Bolivia
Product Description
Size: standard adult women
Material: pure alpaca
You know what's special about this pair of gloves? It was hand knitted by indigenous Aymara mothers of the city of El Alto, who migrated from rural communities to the city looking for better quality of life for themselves and their families. However, they found the city an imposing and very different place than they imagined, and where decent work opportunities were few. Life was difficult until they found work in fair trade which gave them a chance to improve their income and provide their children a good education.
Alpaca is one of the world's finest fibers. It is a lustrous lightweight fibre, with a unique silky feel, and it has the best thermal qualities of any of the natural fibres. It is non-prickly and more durable than wool. It has no lanolin, which makes it hypoallergenic and ideal for allergy sufferers to wear next to the skin.
